THE USE OF TASK-BASED LEARNING TO IMPROVE SPEAKING SKILL AT THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 14 KOTA SERANG

The objectives of this research were to describe the process of using TaskBased Learning to improve English speaking skill and to find out the improvement English Speaking Skill by using Task-Based Learning at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Kota Serang. The researcher used Collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. The subject of research were 33 students of eighth grade at SMP Negeri 14 Kota Serang. The instruments in this research were observation, documentation and test. The results from the data that had been collected after the researcher applied Task-Based Learning in teaching speaking, it was revealed that students improve their speaking skill. They felt more free to share everything that come from to their mind without any fear of making mistakes. In the improvement of students test result, there was improvement between pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2. In pre-test, the average of students score was just 49.45. After treatment in cycle 1, the student got the improvement on post-test 1 which was in average 74.42. Finally, the students got the improvement again in post-test 2 after cycle 2 which was in average 84.48 (more higher than standard minimum score is 75). Related to the aim of this research, this study was successful to show that there was any improvement of students‟ speaking skill after the treatment by using Task-Based Learning. After the treatment, all the students passed the Standard Minimum Score.
