The objectives of this research was to find out whether there was an influence or not of using annotation strategy towards students’ reading comprehension of recount text at the eight grade of SMPN7 Kota Serang. The subject of this research were devided into two classes that chosen by non random sampling type of convenience sampling. This study used quasi-experimental design using nonequivalent pre-test and posttest design. In collecting the data, test was used. The test was given twice to experimental and control groups, as a pre-test and post-test. To verify the hypotheses of the pretest and posttest of the experimental and control groups, the data were analyzed by using independent sample t-test. The result of Ttest showed that there were significant difference between those class, and the result showed that tcount was 3.35 while the ttable was 1.67, it means that tcount ≥ ttable. It could be seen that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It means that using annotation strategy had influence on students’ reading comprehension. The study suggest that annotation strategy empowers students reading skills and make them become more enthusiastic in learning. It is recommended to the teacher to use annotation strategy to help students understand reading texts and stimulate their analytical skills.
