THE INFLUENCE OF SCIENTIFIC APPROACH TOWARDS STUDENTS RECOUNT TEXT WRITING SKILL AT EIGHTH GRADE OF SMPN 2 CIOMAS

The objective of this research study was to find out whether scientific approach influences the students in recount text writing skill. The design of this research was quasi-experimental design by Hatch & Farhady (1982). The sampling of this research was convenience sampling, the researcher asked the teacher in that school to choose the class that would be possibly used as sample. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 CIOMAS and the sample were class VIII C which was assigned as experimental class and VIII B which was assigned as control class. The researcher applied scientific approach in experimental class, and genre based approach for control class. Each class consists of 30 students. The instruments of this research were writing tests. The tests were conducted twice, one before treatment (pre-test) and the other after the treatment (post-test). Data analysis showed that the t count at significant degree of 5% is 2.72, higher than t table 2.00 it means that null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and alternative hypothesis is accepted. Therefore, it could be concluded that scientific approach can be an alternative approach for teaching English writing at the eighth grade of SMPN 2 CIOMAS.
