The objective of this research was to find out whether there is improvement of students writing in recount text through video at the eighth grade of SMPN 17 Kota Serang in the academic year of 2017/2018. The researcher used quantitative research that employed true experimental design for conducting the research. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 17 Kota Serang. The sample of this research was chosen based on cluster random sampling. There were two groups, Experimental Group and Control Group. Each group consists of 40 students. Pre-test was given to the groups at the beginning of the phase. Then treatment was given only to experimental group for two meetings. To find the improvement, post-test was given to the groups. The researcher used content validity and inter-rater reliability in order to make the instruments was valid and reliable. In testing the hypothesis the researcher used t-test as formula to know if there is improvement of students writing in recount text through video at the eighth grade of SMPN 17 Kota Serang in the academic year of 2017/2018. The calculation shows the result of is higher than (6.99 > 1.99) with the significance 0.05 (5%). It means the alternative hypothesis is accepted. From the results of the research, it can be concluded that there was improvement of students’ writing in recount text through video at the eighth grade of SMPN 17 Kota Serang in the academic year of 2017/2018.
