THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING ENGLISH POP SONGS TOWARD STUDENTS’ LISTENING COMPREHENSION AT THE TENTH GRADE OF SMAN 5 KOTA SERANG

The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of using English pop songs toward students listening comprehension at the tenth grade of SMAN 5 Kota Serang. The population of this research was all the students of the tenth grade of SMAN 5 Kota Serang, and the sample were X Science 4 as experimental class and X Science 3 as control class. The researcher used quantitative method. The instrument of research was the test. The result of pre-test on experimental class: the higher score = 70, the lowest score = 30 and mean score = 45.17, where as the result of pre-test on control class, the highest score = 65, the lowest score = 30 and mean score = 46. And then the result of post-test on experimental class were the highest score = 95, the lowest score = 65 and mean score = 78. Whereas the result of post-test on control class were the highest = 90, the lowest score = 60 and mean score = 71.67. The result of data showed that tcount ≥ ttable (18.38 ≥ 2.00). It means that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that using English pop songs was effective toward students listening comprehension.
