The objectives of this research were to find out the effectiveness of using REAP (Read, Encode, Annotate, and Ponder) technique toward students reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMAN 2 Kota Serang and to find out the students responses toward REAP (Read, Encode, Annotate, and Ponder) technique on students reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMAN 2 Kota Serang. The samples of this research were 80 students, 41 students in X Science 1 as the experimental group and 39 students in X Science 10 as the control group. The design of this research was true experimental research. This research was conducted in four meetings. The researcher applied the REAP technique as a treatment in experimental group. The instruments of this research were test and questionnaire. The test form was multiple choices that consisted of 25 items. The questionnaire form was closeended question that consisted of ten questions. The result of T-test showed that tcount was higher than ttable or 2.32 ≥ 1.66. Moreover, the result of questionnaire showed that the students in experimental class gave the positive responses toward the REAP technique. Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that REAP technique is effective toward students reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMAN 2 Kota Serang.
