The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of using student teams achievement divisions (STAD) technique in students reading comprehension of recount text at the eighth grade of SMPN 2 Kota Serang. The researcher used quantitative research by using true experimental design for conducting the research. The subject of this research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Kota Serang. The subject of this research used cluster random sampling, which consist of two classes. The experimental class was VIII H and VIII C as control class with 30 students in each class. In testing the hypothesis the researcher used t-test as the formulas to find out the effectiveness of using student teams achievement division (STAD) technique in students reading comprehension of recount text at the eighth grade of SMPN 2 Kota Serang. The calculation showed the result of was higher than (9,73 ≥ 2.00) with the significance 0.05. It could be concluded that there was effective of using student teams achievement division (STAD) technique in students reading comprehension of recount text at the eighth grade of SMPN 2 Kota Serang.
