The purpose of this research was to find out whether the using of scientific approach was effective in students‟ reading comprehension. This research used quantitative as its method and quasi experimental as its design. The population of the research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 10 Kota Serang and the sample were class VIII H which was assigned as experimental class and VIII I which was assigned as control class. Each class consisted of 30 students. In this research, the researcher used test to measure the students‟ reading comprehension. The test was conducted twice, before treatment (pre-test) and after treatment (post-test). Then the result of test was used to do the hypothesis testing by using independent t-test. Based on the result of t-test, tcount (1.81) ≥ ttable (1.67), meant that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Therefore it could be concluded that the use of scientific approach is effective in teaching reading comprehension on narrative text at the eighth grade of SMPN 10 Kota Serang.
