The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of Direct Reading Thinking Activity (DR-TA) strategy toward students reading comprehension at eighth grade of SMPN 9 Kota Serang. The researcher used quantitative research by using true experimental design for conducting the research. The subject of this research was the eighth grade students’ of SMPN 9 Kota Serang. This research used cluster random sampling to choose the sample. The sample were experimental class was VIII E and VIIIF as control class with 30 students in each class. The instrument of this research was test, there were pre-test and post-test that given to both class. Before giving pre-test and post-test, the researcher conducted content validity test by consulted with the English teacher test to know if the instrument that used in pre-test and post-test was valid and the research cooperated with the English teacher of SMPN 9 Kota Serang in scoring students’ reading comprehension to measure inter- rater reliability. In testing the hypothesis the researcher used t-test as formulas to know an effectiveness of direct reading thinking activity strategy toward students reading comprehension at eighth grade of SMPN 9 Kota Serang. The result of this research showed that the t-test result was 2,5 and the t-table result was 2,00. It showed that direct reading thinking activity strategy was effective toward students’ reading comprehension at eighth grade of SMPN 9 Kota Serang.
