IMPROVING STUDENTSí VOCABULARY MASTERY BY USING FLASH CARD AT THE SEVENTH GRADE OF SMP NEGERI 11 KOTA SERANG

The objectives of this research were to describe the process of improving students’ vocabulary mastery by using flash card and to find out the improvement of students vocabulary by using flash card at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 11 Kota Serang. The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as a research methodology. The researcher used pre-test and post-test to collect the quantitative data. Meanwhile, the researcher used observation sheet, and documentation for collecting the qualitative data. This research was conducted in two cycles which consisted of two meetings in every cycle. The procedure of each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. This research was conducted at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 11 Kota Serang in academic year of 2016/2017 that consists of 39 students. The instrument of this research were observation sheet and vocabulary test. The research found out whether flash card as a media could improve the students vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 11 Kota Serang. In the first cycle, the average of pre-test was 46.41, and average post-test I was 65.76. For cycle II, the average of post-test II was 79.10. The research found that the students got an improvement in vocabulary mastery. In conclusion, flash card as a media of teaching learning process could improve students’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 11 Kota Serang.
