IMPROVING STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY BY USING “MAKE A MATCH” TECHNIQUE AT THE EIGHTH GRADE OF SMPN 8 KOTA SERANG

The objective of the research were get the students’ improvement in vocabulary and the process of implementation of Make a Match technique in students’ vocabulary mastery. Generically, vocabulary is the knowledge from meaning of words. Vocabulary refers to the teaching of word meaning. The use of this research was to apply Make a Match technique and get the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery. The researcher used qualitative and quantitative research which applied classroom action research (CAR) as research methodology. The researcher used VIII-C class of eighth grade at SMPN 8 Kota Serang which consisted of 40 students. There were 22 males and 18 females. This research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisted of four steps, there are; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The instruments used in collecting the data were observation, test, and documentation. The result of the research showed that the use of Make a Match technique and how Make a Match technique improved students’ vocabulary mastery. The result of students average score in pre-test was 48.88, the post-test of cycle 1 was 64 and 78.63 in post-test of cycle 2. From the result, it can be concluded that using Make a Match technique can give students improvement in their vocabulary mastery. In the improvement, students vocabulary mastery was increased from cycle 1 which 15% into 72.5% at the cycle 2.
