The objectives of the research were to get empirical evidence of improving students’ reading comprehension through KWL (Know, Want, Learn) strategy and to find out the improvement of students’ in reading comprehension text through KWL strategy of eighth grade of MTs Al-Hidayah Nufus Simangu. In this research there were two problems tried to be answered: the process of improving students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text and the result of students’ improvement in reading comprehension of descriptive text through KWL strategy. The subject of this research was VIII-A consists of one class with 35 students in MTs Al-Hidayah Nufus Simangu. The researcher used classroom action research (CAR) as a research methodology. This research was conducted in two cycles which consisted of two meetings in each cycle. The research used mixing method. The researcher used pre-test and post-test to collect the quantitative data. Meanwhile, the researcher used observation sheet and documentation for collecting the qualitative data. The researcher used pre-test before applying the treatment to measure the students reading comprehension. The average of pre-test was 50. The first cycle, the result of post-test 1 was 72.28.Based on the test result, it could be concluded that the improvement of pretest to post-test was 28.24%, while, from post-test 1 to post-test 2 was 91.14. Meanwhile, the second cycle, the result of post-test 2 was 78.42. The researcher found that the students got an improvement in reading comprehension. The students could pass the standard minimum score in the school, it was 75. In conclusion, students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text can be improved through KWL strategy.advisor
