The objective of the research was to find out whether there is The Influence of Direct Method toward Students Vocabulary Mastery at the First Grade of SMPN 11 Kota Serang. This research used true-experimental as the research design. The population of this research was the first grade at SMPN 11 Kota Serang in academic year 2017-2018. The researcher used simple random sampling to take the sample. The sample of this research were 40 students, 20 students in VII C as control class and 20 students in VII B as experiment class. The test was divided into two parts, there were pre-test and post-test. The treatment using Direct Method was administrated for experiment class and using Grammar Translate Method for control class. The research result indicated that there was influence between pre-test and post-test result. It could be seen from the pre-test mean score of experiment class was 64,4 and control class was 68,2. After having the treatment, the mean score of post-test experiment class was 85,4 and control class was 80,6. Data analysis was attempted to use T-test for two groups design. The research result indicated that the post-test score showed Tcount more than Ttable(3.63 > 2,02). It means the Ho (null hypothesis) was refused and Ha (alternative hypothesis) was accepted. Based on the data analysis above, the researcher concluded that there was influence of direct method toward student’s vocabulary mastery at the first grade of SMPN 11 Kota Serang.
