AN ANALYSIS OF VERBAL INTERACTION IN SPEAKING LEARNING BETWEEN TEACHER AND STUDENTS AT ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMAN 1 CIRUAS

The research used qualitative approach and descriptive analysis as a method, and the design of this research was content analysis. The objective of this research was to find out the dominant characteristic and the description of verbal interaction in speaking learning at eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Ciruas in 2016/2017 academic year. The researcher conducted this research by applying qualitative approach. The subject of this research was the students and the teacher at eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Ciruas. The data were collected by observing 3 times class meeting by using observation tally sheet, and recording by using audio recorder. Then, the data were analyzed by using Flander‟s formulation. The result of this research determined that the content cross (60.3%), teacher support (25%), teacher control (12.8%), and students participation (42.3%). It showed that the teacher talk was highest than student participation during the observation in the classroom. The content cross (60.3%) was the most dominant characteristics during the observation. The characteristics showed the correlation of the teacher indirect and direct talk. The teacher spent talking time more in teaching and learning process to lecturing and asking questions. From the result, the researcher concluded that the students were not active enough in the classroom.
