The topic of this research is “The effectiveness of Cue Card toward Students’ Speaking Ability at Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 3 Carita. In the Academic year 2014/2015. The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of cue cards toward students’ speaking ability. The research used quantitative research method. It used the true experimental design as research method. The sample used in this research was the students 8B as experimental class and 8A as control class. The researcher used 54 students as sample from both of classes. The samples were selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The data was collected by using pre-test and post-test. The researcher used pre-test to know students speaking ability before they get the treatment and used the post test to know the effectiveness of cue cards as media in teaching speaking. The research found the result tcount was 1.233. Then, the degree of freedom was 52 and the ttable for df= 52 was 0.679. The tcount was higher than ttable or 1.233> 0.679. It means that Ha was accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected. It can be concluded that cue cards as media was effective to use in teaching speaking ability. In other words, there was significance between teaching speaking using cue card.
