The aim of this research was to identify code switching used in the classroom interaction at teaching learning activity at eighth grade of SMPN 17 Kota Serang. In this research there were two problems tried to be answered, they are the types code switching used by the teacher and the students, and the reason of code switching usage. The researcher used qualitative method with triangulation technique as a technique in collecting the data. The subjects of this research were an English teacher and students at eighth grade of SMPN 17 Kota Serang. The objects of this research were English teacher‟s and students code during teaching learning activity. The instruments of this research were documentation, observation and interview. From the result of the data that had been collected, there were three types of code switching used by the teacher such as tag-switching, intra-sentential switching and inter-sentential switching. Related to the reason of code switching and code mixing usage, there were five reasons found: talking about particular topic, interjection, repetition used of clarification, being emphatic about something, and to soften or strengthen request command.
