The aim of this study was to find out the process and the improvement of teaching grammar through pop song at tenth grade of Modern Islamic Boarding School of AlHasyimiyah. This research was conducted at tenth grade in academic 2015-2016 for one class with 24 students as a participant. The data of this research was taken from observation, pre-test, test cycle I, test cycle II, post-test, and documentation. The researcher conducted qualitative design by applying classroom action research (CAR) as a method with two cycles and each cycle consisted of two meeting. The result showed that there was improvement of students’ score in learning simple past tense through pop song. It can be seen from students’ test result. For pre-test, the students’ result had the average score of 52.08. After giving the treatment in cycle I, the students’ average score became 64.16. It increased 12.08% than pre-test. In cycle II, students’ average score took 76.04. And for post-test, students’ average score increased 9.79% became 85.83. From the result above, the researcher found that pop song as media can give positive effect for students in learning grammar of simple past tense. The students were comfortable and enjoy in learning simple past tense. So, they got improvement in learning grammar especially in simple past tense. As suggestion, the researcher suggests that teacher can use pop song in teaching grammar regarding the positive effect of it.
