THE INFLUENCE OF USING PICTURE SERIES TOWARD STUDENTSí ABILITY IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT AT THE EIGHTH GRADE OF SMPN 3 CIKUPA KABUPATEN TANGERANG

The objective of this research is to know the influence of using picture series toward students’ ability in writing recount text at eight grade students of SMPN 3 Cikupa Kabupaten Tangerang. The researcher conducted a quantitative research method by implementing true experimental design, in order to find out whether there is positive influence of using picture series toward students’ writing recount. The researcher carried out test as the data collecting techniques. The test was given to the students to find out whether the treatment given any contribution to the students’ achievement in writing recount or not. The population of this research was all the eight grade students of SMPN 3 Cikupa Kabupaten Tangerang in academic year 2015/2016. The sample of this research was VIII 7 as the control group class and VIII 5 as the experimental group class. Each class consisted of 30 students, so the sample total was 60 students. The result of the test showed that there is an influence in students’ writing score. The mean pre-test score of control group is 52.83 and experimental group is 50.73. The mean post-test score of control group is 66.23 and experimental group is 70. It is also can be seen from the mean score of following items of recount text: orientation from 13 to 17.16, event from 18.66 to 21.33, reorientation from 9.33 to 17.16, and language feature from 10.16 to 15. The hypothesis test used independent t-test. The result of this research showed that t-test is higher than t-table (15.83 > 1.672) in control group and the t-test in experimental group also is higher than t-table (19.83 > 1.672). It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) accepted. So, the researcher concludes that there is a significant influence of using picture series toward students’ ability in writing recount text at eight grade students of SMPN 3 Cikupa Kabupaten Tangerang.
