AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS ERROR IN TERMS OF USING VERB IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 22 TANGERANG

This research was conducted to analyze students’ error and also to find out the main causes of students’ error in using verb when writing descriptive text. Qualitative descriptive was used as the method to describe a result of a process based on the category that had been determined. Therefore, the researcher used document analysis and interview as the instruments to collect the data. The result of the research showed that there were not students who writing descriptive text grammatically. Most of errors that students did was omission errors which the students did not write an item or a morpheme which was needed in their sentences. For instance; omission of verb ‘is’, and omission of ‘s/es’ after subject for the verb they used. This error was the highest frequency of errors that found by the researcher with 134 errors or 48.72%. The main cause of this error was incomplete application of rules that occurred when the student failed to apply the rules completely or it could be said that the student did not know the whole pattern correctly.
