IMPROVING STUDENTíS VOCABULARY MASTERY THROUGH CROSSWORD PUZZLE GAMES AT THE FIRST GRADE OF SMA NEGERI 7 KOTA SERANG

The research was carried out in order to find out the improvements of the students’ vocabulary mastery by using crossword puzzle game. The purpose of this study are to find out the process and the result of the improvements in students’ vocabulary mastery through crossword puzzle game. The research was limited on the improving students’ vocabulary mastery through crossword puzzle game at first grade of SMAN 7 Kota Serang. The research was carried out at SMAN 7 Kota Serang from 13th April 2016 until 13th May 2016. The subject of this research was first grade student at SMAN 7 Kota Serang in academic year 2016-2017. The sample of this research was one of tenth class, this class consists of 25 students. The method used in this study was Classroom Action Research in which the researcher observed and gave crossword puzzle game as media for teaching vocabulary skill. In this Classroom Action Research, the researcher used pre_test and post-test to collect the quantitative data. Meanwhile, the researcher used observation and documentation for collecting the qualitative data. The researcher used pre-test to know students’ ability before they got the treatment. In addition, the researcher also used the test in each cycles to know students’ improvement after getting the treatment. The result of students’ pre-test is 60, and the result of pos-test in cycle one is 79,2. The improvement between pre-test and post test in cycle one is 19,2%. For the result of pos test 2 in cycle two is 83,4. The percentage of the improvement from the result of post test 1 in cycle one and post test 2 in cycle two is 4,4% and the last result of pos test 3 in cycle two is 86,4. The percentage of the improvement from the result of post test 2 in cycle and post test 3 in cycle two is 2,8%.
