IMPROVING STUDENTSí DESCRIPTIVE WRITING ABILITY THROUGH MIND MAPPING TECHNIQUE AT THE SECOND GRADE OF SMP AL - IRSYAD WARINGINKURUNG

The objectives of the research were to know the process of teaching descriptive writing through mind mapping technique and to know the improvement of students‟ descriptive writing ability through mind mapping technique at the second grade of SMP Al-Irsyad Waringinkurung. The research methodology was qualitative research implementing the classroom action research, the main of qualitative was to search information and asses a situation in the classroom and quantitative research will support qualitative data. The researcher believes that using qualitative and quantitative methods were considered appropriate to this research. The classroom action research was conducted in two cycles consists of two meetings, the researcher gave the pre-test and post-test to the students. The subject of this research is the students of VIII A which consists of 38 students. Based on the result and discussion of the research, the researcher concluded that teaching descriptive writing through mind mapping at the second grade of SMP Al-Irsyad has been proven and implemented appropriately, the test in cycle one was 70.86 and cycle two was 86.26, it was improved 40.52%. In addition, the process of teaching learning descriptive writing through mind mapping technique could uses to improve the students‟ ability.
