THE INFLUENCE OF USING SQ4R METHOD TOWARD STUDENTSí READING COMPREHENSION IN NARRATIVE TEXT ( QUASI- EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH AT EIGHTH GRADE OF SMPN 6 CILEGON IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016 )

The objective of this research is to find out whether SQ4R method has significant influence toward students’ reading comprehension. This research was conducted at the eighth grade of SMPN 6 Cilegon in academic year 2015/2016. The sample of this research were VIII C which consists of 30 students as the experimental class and VIII A consists of 30 students as the control class. The experimental class was taught by using SQ4R ( Survey, Qusetion, Read, Recite, Record and Review ) method and control class without SQ4R method. The researcher used quantitative research implementing the quasi experimental as the research design. Technique for collecting the data was tests which consisted of pre-test and posttest. After calculated the data, it is found that there is any influence of SQ4R method toward students’ reading comprehension, indicated by thevalue of t-test was higher than the value t-table ( 4.03 ≥ 2.00 ) at the level of significance of α 0.05 and degree of freedom is 58. It means that the hypothesis was accepted. From those findings, it can be concluded that there is any influence of SQ4R method toward students’ reading comprehension.
