THE INFLUENCE OF USING STUDENT TEAMS ACHIEVEMENT DIVISION (STAD) TOWARD STUDENTSí READING COMPREHENSION AT TENTH GRADE OF SMAN 1 CIRUAS

The objective of this research is to find out the influence of using cooperative learning (students‟ team achievement division) towards students reading comprehension by using narrative text at tenth grade of SMAN 1 Ciruas. The researcher used quantitative research by using true experimental design for conducting the research. The sample of this research is the tenth grade students‟ of SMAN 1 Ciruas. The sample of this research used cluster random sampling, which consist of two classes. The experimental class is X MIPA 6 and X MIPA 5 as control class with consists of 35 students in each class. The instrument of this research is test, there are pre-test and post-test that given to both class. Before giving pre-test and post-test, the researcher conducted try-out test in other class to measure if the instrument that used in pre-test and post-test is valid and reliable as research instrument. In testing the hypothesis the researcher used t-test as formulas to find out an influence of using students‟ teams achievement division in improving students‟ reading comprehension by using narrative text at tenth grade of SMAN 1 Ciruas, and the researcher obtained the tcount was higher than t-table (3.18 > 2.00). The result of this research showed that by implementing students‟ team achievement division has influence toward students‟ reading comprehension. . In other words, STAD method can be used as an alternative to teach reading to the students at senior high school level.
