IMPROVING STUDENTíS READING COMPREHENSION ON NARRATIVE TEXT THROUGH KWL (KNOW, WANT, LEARN) TECHNIQUE

The objectives of this research were to describe the process in teaching reading of fable text and to discover the improvement of student’s reading comprehension achievement through KWL (Know, Want, Learn) technique at the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI Jatiuwung Tangerang. The researcher used classroom action research (CAR) as research methodology. The research was conducted in two cycles which consisted of two meetings in each cycle. Data of the improvement were gained from both qualitative and quantitative data. The researcher used observation checklist and documentation to obtain the qualitative data. Furthermore pre test, post test I and post test II were conducted to obtain the quantitative data. The average score of student’s tests improved gradually, based on the result of pre test, post test I, and post test II. The student’s average score in pre test was 52.6 and the post test I was 68.5 increased by 15,9%. Further, the result of student’s average score in post test II was 92.1 increased by 23,6% from post test I which was 68.5. The result shows that the achievement of student’s score in reading comprehension of fable text was increased after implementing KWL (Know, Want, Learn) technique at eighth grade students of SMP PGRI Jatiuwung.
