THE INFLUENCE OF DIRECTED READING THINKING ACTIVITY (DRTA) ON STUDENTSí READING COMPREHENSION AT ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMA MUHAMMADIYAH 9 BEKASI

The purpose of the research was to know the influence of Directed Reading Thinking Activity on students reading comprehension at eleventh grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 09 Bekasi . To achieve the purpose of the research, the researcher conducted true-experimental research at SMA Muhammadiyah 09 Bekasi. The population of this research was eleventh grade students in academic year 2015/2016. For the sampling, the researcher took two classes based on cluster random sampling technique, XI IPA 1 was as experimental class and XI IPA 2 was as control class. Both of classes consisted of 20 students. The experimental class was taught reading comprehension by using DRTA, while the control class was taught reading comprehension by using monotone method. The research findings showed the result of post-test mean score in experimental class was higher than the result of post-test mean score in control class. To prove that the mean score of both classes were significantly different, the data was analyzed by using t-test. The result of data analysis showed that ttest > ttable (2.15> 2.02) which indicated that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted, so it means there was an influence of DRTA on students reading comprehension at eleventh grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 09 Bekasi. It can be concluded that DRTA skill helped students to get better achievement in reading comprehension.
