IMPROVING STUDENTS‟ ABILITY IN USING SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE THROUGH CLIMBING GRAMMAR MOUNTAIN (CGM) GAME AT SECOND GRADE OF SMPN 4 KOTA SERANG

This research was aimed at describing the process of improving students‟ ability in using simple present tense through Climbing Grammar Mountain (CGM) game and knowing the improvement of students‟ ability in using simple present tense after being taught by using CGM game at second grade of SMPN 4 Kota Serang. The subject of this research was 37 students in class VIII A of SMPN 4 Kota Serang. The method used in this research was classroom action research (CAR). It was conducted in two cycles. The data of this research were gained by analyzing observation sheet, questionnaire, pretest, and posttest. The finding of this research showed that there was improvement on students‟ ability in using simple present tense. The average score of students‟ pretest was 53.1, the average score of students‟ posttest 1 was 68.1, and the average score of students‟ posttest 2 was 76.5. In addition, there was not student (0%) who passed minimum score (KKM) in pretest. Meanwhile, in posttest 1, there were ten students (27.03%), and in posttest 2, there were 29 students (78.38%), so the criteria of success was achieved. Moreover, the result of observation sheet and questionnaire showed there was improvement of students‟ positive responses in simple present tense teaching learning process by using CGM game. In conclusion, that the students‟ ability in using simple present tense has improved and the students were motivated in learning simple present tense through CGM game.
