THE INFLUENCE OF USING SEMANTIC MAPPING TOWARDS STUDENTSí READING COMPREHENSION IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT TENTH GRADE OF SMAN 11 KABUPATEN TANGERANG

The objective of this research is to find out the influence of using semantic mapping toward students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text at the tenth grade of SMAN 11 Kabupaten Tangerang. The researcher used quantitative research by using true experimental design for conducting the research. The subject of this research is the tenth grade students’ of SMAN 11 Kabupaten Tangerang. The subject of this research used cluster random sampling, which consist of two classes. The experimental class is X IPA 1 and X IPA 2 as control class with 37 students in each class. The instrument of this research is test, there are pre-test and post-test that given to both class. Before giving pre-test and post-test, the researcher conducted try-out test in other class to know if the instrument that used in pre-test and post-test is valid and reliable as research instrument. In testing the hypothesis the researcher used t-test as formulas to know the influence of using semantic mapping in descriptive text toward students reading comprehension tenth grade of SMAN 11 Kabupaten Tangerang. The result of this research, shown that by using Semantic mapping has 0.24 large improvement effect based on the scale of effect size.
