The aim of this research was to identify code switching and code mixing used by the English teacher at tenth grade of SMAN 19 Kabupaten Tangerang. In this research there were two problems tried to be answered, they are the types code switching and code mixing used by the teacher, and the reason of code switching and code mixing usage. The researcher used qualitative method with triangulation technique as a technique in collecting the data. The subject of this research was English teacher at tenth grade of SMAN 19 Kabupaten Tangerang. The object of this research was English teacher’s code switching and code mixing during teaching activity. The instruments of this research were documentation, observation and interview. From the result of the data that had been collected, there were three types of code switching used by the teacher such as tag switching, intra-sentential switching and inter-sentential switching. Meanwhile for code mixing there were two types used by the teacher such as insertion and alternation. Related to the reason of code switching and code mixing usage, there were four reasons found: talking about particular topic, interjection, repetition used of clarification, and to soften or strengthen request command.
