THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GENRE BASED APPROACH TOWARD STUDENTSí WRITING SKILL AT THE TENTH GRADE OF SMKN 1 KAB. TANGERANG

The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of genre based approach toward students’ writing skill the tenth grade students of SMK N 1 Kab. Tangerang. The population of the research was the tenth grade students of SMK N 1 Kab. Tangerang in academic year 2014/2015. The sample of the research through genre based approach sampling, namely X TKI 2 as experimental class and X TE 1 as control class. The experimental class was taught by using genre based approach method, and the control class was taught by using conventional method that is communication method. The instruments of this research is  pre-test and post-test were given to both of groups. The research findings showed that there was influence of pre-test and post-test result. It could be seen from the mean score pre-test of experimental class was 50.14 and control class was 52.17. After the treatment, there are influence in both of class in post-test. The mean score post-test of experimental class was 64.63 and control class was 60.71. On the other side, T-test was used to know the effectiveness of Genre Based Approach toward students’ writing skill. From the result of T-test calculation in post-test, it was obtained that T-test was higher than t-table (2536 ≥ 1.996). It means the Ha (alternative hypothesis) was accepted and Genre Based Approach was effective to increase students’ writing skill at tenth grade of SMK N 1 Kab. Tangerang.
