THE INFLUENCE OF JIGSAW TECHNIQUE TOWARD STUDENTSí READING COMPREHENSION IN NARRATIVE TEXT AT THE EIGHTH GRADE OF SMPN 1 PETIR KABUPATEN SERANG

The objective of this research was to find out whether there is an influence of using Jigsaw technique toward students‟ reading comprehension in narrative text at the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Petir Kabupaten Serang. This research used quantitative research design by implementing the true-experimental design. The population of this research was the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Petir Kabupaten Serang in academic year 2015-2016. The researcher used cluster random sampling to take the sample. The samples of this research were 70 students, 35 students in VIII C as the experimental group and 35 students in VIII A as the control group. The instrument of this research was used test.  The test was divided into two parts, there were pre-test and post-test. The treatment using Jigsaw technique was administrated for the experimental group. The research result indicated that there was improvement between pre-test and post-test. It could be seen from the mean score of pre-test in the experimental group was 66.29and control group was 57.14. After got treatment, the mean score of post-test in the experimental group was 84.57 and control group was 72.71. It was indicated by the result of independent ttest computation result of post-test score showed that t-count more than the t-table (4.364 >0.678). It means the Ho (null hypothesis) was refused and Ha (alternative hypothesis) was accepted. Based on the data analysis above, the researcher concluded that there was influence of using Jigsaw technique toward students‟ reading comprehension in narrative text at the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Petir Kabupaten Serang.
