THE INFLUENCE OF USING SEMANTIC MAPPING STRATEGY TOWARD STUDENTSí READING COMPREHENSION IN REPORT TEXT AT NINTH GRADE STUDENTS OF MTs DARUL HUDA PUSAT GIMA MANDALAWANGI

The objective of this research to find out the influence of using semantic mapping strategy toward students’ reading comprehension in report text at ninth grade students of MTs Darul Huda Pusat Gima Mandalawangi. The researcher used quantitative research by implementing true experimental design as the research methode. There were two groups used in this research, experimental and control group. The population of this research was the ninth grade students of MTs Darul Huda Pusat Gima Mandalawangi. The sample was 20 students of experimental group and 20 students of control group.The research employed true experimental method with pre-test and post-test design. The researcher gave the students a pretest in experimental and control groups. The data which was collected through pre-test and post-test was analyzed by using t-test. The data analysis of independent t-test showed that there was a difference of post-test mean between both of the groups; experimental group and control group. The result of post-test mean in experimental group increased higher than the result of post-test mean in control group. The post-test mean in experimental group was 80,5 and post-test mean in control group was 69. In conclusion, the post-test mean of experimental group was higher than the post-test mean of control group. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) could be accepted. Therefore, it can be stated that there was the influence of using semantic mapping strategy toward students’ reading comprehension especially in report text.
