AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS TRANSLATION ON ARGUMENTATIVE TEXT

This research is focused in analyzing students‟ translation on argumentative text at the eleventh grade of SMAN 3 Kabupaten Tangerang. The objective of this research is to find out the methods which are applied by students in translating argumentative text and observe the students‟ ability in translating argumentative text. The methodology that was used in this research was qualitative research method to describe the result of students‟ translation text. The subjects of this research were students at class XI IPS 2 of SMAN 3 Kabupaten Tangerang. Based on the data finding, it showed that majority of the students already have an average criterion in translating text, which are message content accuracy, message distinct, equivalences of using language and the last are mechanic appropriate because they were only applied free translation method. According to the interview and questionnaire result, it most showed reasons why the students were have difficulties in translating argumentative text were they were lack of vocabularies, they do not have more time to learn translation theory whether in school or home, also their environment did not support them well.
