THE INFLUENCE OF ROLE PLAYS ON STUDENTSí SPEAKING ACHIEVEMENT AT ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMAN 1 KRAMATWATU KABUPATEN SERANG

The objective of this research were to find out the influence of Role Play that commonly applied by eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Kramatwatu especially class XI IPS 2. The researcher used quantitative method. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Kramatwatu in academic year of 2014/2015. The population of this research was 175 students. There were 50 students as representative sample in SMAN 1 Kramatwatu. The researcher collected the data by using test.the research method that used is true experimental design. The two of three classes were randomly taken as sample of the research by using cluster random technique. The class chosen as the experimental group was the class that used role play technique in learning speaking, and the control group was the class that used conventional teaching in learning speaking the research data was gained by using performance test as the research instrument. Test instrument was the test of students‟ speaking achievement in form of performance that given on pre-test and post-test. The hypothesis test that was used was independent t-test computation. The computation result also gave evidence that the experimental class achieved the improvement in their post-test score if it compared to the pretest score. The result showed that the mean in control class was less than the experimental class, it was 52,2for the control class and 62,8 for the experimental class.  From the data, the researcher concluded that Role Play technique makes the student learn speaking easily used English well and students weren‟t scared to perform the utterances in their daily life in front of the class. In this research, teacher and students solved their problems in teaching and learning process, students prepared and practice the dialogues in English easily, more practice and exercises in class.
