THE INFLUENCE OF JIGSAW TECHNIQUE TOWARD STUDENTSí READING NARRATIVE TEXT AT EIGHT GRADE OF MTSN 1 KOTA SERANG

The objective of this research was to find out the influence of Jigsaw Technique Toward Students’ Reading Narrative Text at the Eighth Grade of MTsN 1 Kota Serang. The researcher used quantitative research implementing the quasi experimental design as the research method. There were two classes used in this research. The experimental and control class. Sample of this research were students of MTsN 1 Kota Serang, 28 students selected for each class. Data were obtained from the students pretest and posttest score. Result of this research showed that jigsaw technique influenced students’ reading comprehension. The researcher found the mean of pretest score in control class was 59.2 and experimental class was 51.4, x2 value of control class was 6.04 and experimental class was 9.72. Meanwhile, mean of posttest score in control class was 71.4 and experimental class was 70.62, x2 value of control class was 6.01 and experimental class was 9.6. There was an increase in posttest from experimental class. It meant the scores of experimental class higher than control class.The researcher found that there was a significant influence of Jigsaw Technique toward students’ reading comprehension, indicated by the value of t-test higher than the value of ttable (3.8 > 2.005) at the level of significant of α 0.05 and degree of freedom was 54. It meant that the hypothesis was accepted. From those findings, it can be concluded that there was a significant influence of Jigsaw technique toward students’ reading narrative text.
