IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH COOPERATIVE LEARNING – TPS (THINK-PAIR-SHARE) TECHNIQUE AT THE EIGHTH GRADE OF SMPN 19 KOTA SERANG

The aim of this research was to describe out the process and to know the improvement of students’ reading comprehension by using cooperative learning - TPS (Think-Pair-Share) technique. The subjects of this research were the students of eighth grade students SMPN 19 Kota Serang which consisted of 30 students. In this research, the researcher applied qualitative design implemented Classroom Action Research (CAR) as a research method, which consisted of two cycles. In the research, the researcher collected the data by using test, observation, and documentation. The result of this research showed that the use of the technique of TPS helps the students in comprehending the text. It was proven by the teaching learning process which getting positive responses from the students. In addition, the result of the students’ achievement also improved from 64.53 in cycle one became 74.80 in cycle two. It means that there was improvement of students’ achievement from cycle one improved 16.27 % and cycle two improved 10.27 %.
