THE EFFECTIVENESS OF BROCHURE IN TEACHING READING COMPREHENSION AT THE ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMA NURUL HIDAYAH CIKUPA TANGERANG

The objective of the research is to find out whether there is effectiveness of brochure in teaching reading comprehension at the eleventh grade SMA Nurul Hidayah Cikupa - Tangerang. This research used true-experimental design. The population of this research was the eleventh grade of SMA Nurul Hidayah Cikupa - Tangerang in the academic year 2015-2016. The researcher used cluster random sampling to take the sample. The sample of this research were 60 students, 30 students in XI IPS as experiment class and 30 students in XI IPA control class. The instrument of this research was test. The test was divided into two parts, there were pre-test and posttest. The treatment using brochure was administrated for experiment class and while in control class was using functional text. The research result indicated that there was improvement between pre-test and post-test result. It could be seen from the pre-test mean score of experiment class was 46.97 and control class was 47.00. After having the treatment, the mean score of post-test experiment class was 85.33 and control class was 79.67. The result of T-Test indicated that the post-test score showed tcount more than ttable (0.089 > 0.678). It means the Ho (null hypothesis) was refused and Ha (alternative hypothesis) was accepted. Based on the data analysis above, the researcher concluded that there was effectiveness of brochure in teaching reading comprehension at the eleventh grade of SMA Nurul Hidayah Cikupa – Tangerang.
