THE USE OF ANIMATED CARTOON AS A MEDIA TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ DESCRIPTIVE WRITING ABILITY (A classroom Action Research at the Eighth Grade of SMPN 6 Kota Serang)

The objectives of this research is to find out the process and result of the use of animated cartoon to improve students descriptive writing ability at SMPN 6 Kota Serang on the first semester of academic year 2015/2016. This research was held on SMPN 6 Kota Serang, especially class VIII F. The sample of this research was 36 students. The researcher conducted this by applying qualitative approach with Classroom Action Research (CAR) as a method. There were two cycles and in every cycle consists of two meetings. The result of this research shows that animated cartoon can improve students vocabulary mastery. It can be seen from the progress of the students in it before and after the cycles conducted. In pre-test, students got the mean score 65,76, in the first post-test in the cycle 1 the score improved into 11,6% became 77,36 and the second post-test in the cycle 2 there was an improvement 7,4% and the average score became 84,76. From the progress of their score of the first and second pre-test and post-test, they have made a significant improvement in their vocabulary skill. Based on the process of teaching learning process in the class, both the situation and condition were ran-well and conducive appropriate with the lesson plan. The students were interested with the teaching and learning process in class. They also focused on the material and active in every meeting. In summary, using animated cartoon can help students in mastering descriptive writing.
