THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING AUTHENTIC MATERIAL IN TEACHING RECOUNT TEXT TOWARD STUDENTS WRITING ABILITY AT THE TENTH GRADE OF SMA PRISMA KOTA SERANG

The objective of this research is to find out the students study result and the effectiveness of using authentic material in teaching recount text toward students writing ability at the tenth grade students of SMA Prisma Kota Serang. The researcher conducted a quantitative research method by implementing true experimental design, in order to find out whether there is positive effect of using authentic material toward students writing recount. The researcher carried out test as the data collecting techniques. The test was given to the students tofindoutwhether the treatment given any contribution to the students achievement in writing recount or not. The population of this study was all the tenth grade students of SMA Prisma Kota Serang in academic year 2015/2016. The sample of this research was X.3 as the control group class and X.2 as the experimental group class. Each class consisted of 28 students, so the sample total was 56 students. The result of the test showed that there is an effectiveness in students writing score. The mean pre-test score of control group is 55.00 and experimental group is 53.57. The mean post-test score of control group is 67.32 and experimental group is 75.54. The hypothesis test used independent t-test. The result of this research showed that t-testis higher than t-table (3.644 >1.672). It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) accepted. So, the researcher concludes that there is a significant effect of using authentic material in teaching recount text toward students writing ability at the tenth grade students of SMA Prisma Kota Serang.
