THE INFLUENCE OF USING STORYTELLING TOWARD STUDENTS SPEAKING SKILL AT THE EIGHT GRADE OF SMPN 4 KOTA SERANG

The objective of the research was to find out whether there is any significant influence of using storytelling toward students speaking skill at the eighth grade of SMPN 4Kota Serang. The population of this research was the eighth grade ofSMPN 4Kota Serang in academic year 2015-2016. The researcher used simple random sampling to take the sample. The sample of this research was 60 students in which 30students as control class and 30 students as experiment class. The instrument of this research was test. The test was divided into two parts; there were pre-test and post-test.Storytellingtechnique was administeredfor experiment class and conventional technique for control class. The research result indicated that there was influence between pre-test and post-test result. It could be seen from the pre-test mean score in which experiment class got 55,16 and control class got 44,53. After having the treatment, the mean score of post-test experiment class was 72,53 and control class was 59,07. The researcher attempted to use t-test to analyze the data. The research result indicated that the post-test score showed tcountis more than ttable(7,35>2,00). It means that the Ho (null hypothesis) was rejected and Ha (alternative hypothesis) was accepted. Based on the data analysis above, the researcher concluded that there was significant influence of using storytelling toward students speaking skill at the eighth grade of SMPN 4 Kota Serang.
