THE INFLUENCE OF WORD WEB TOWARD STUDENTSí VOCABULARY MASTERY

This research was done because the researcher had found that student’s got difficulties in enriching and mastering vocabulary. The formulation of the problem of the research “Is there any influence of using word web toward student’s vocabulary mastery at the eight grade of SMPN 1 Picung Kab, Pandeglang in 2014-2015 academic year?” A word web is constructed by grouping related words around a central term. This research was conducted at the eight grade of SMPN 1 Picung Kab, Pandeglang in 2014-2015 academic year. It took for about seven meetings and it was started on May 2015. The objective of the research is to investigate influence of using word web toward student’s vocabulary mastery at the eight grade of SMPN 1 Picung Kab, Pandeglang. The subject of the study was two groups: one group as an experimental group which got treatments and another group was a control group. Involving 58 students at the eight grade of SMPN 1 Picung Kab, Pandeglang. The research method in this study is experimental design. Sample of the research was 20% of population. The data was collected by having pretest and post-test. The result show that t-count = 2.816 and t-table = 2.000. Thus, Ho is refused and Ha is accepted. It means, there is a positive influence of applying word web toward student’s vocabulary mastery. It is suggested that the teacher should give interesting material to the students, so that students feel enjoy in learning vocabulary.
