THE INFLUENCE OF USING GROUP DISCUSSION TOWARD STUDENTSí SPEAKING ABILITY AT THE THIRD GRADE OF SMAN 4 PANDEGLANG

The aim of this research was to find out the influence of using group work toward students‘ speaking ability at SMAN 4 Pandeglang on the first semester of academic year 2014/2015. The researcher conducted this research based on a research problem ―Is there any influence of using group work toward students‘ speaking ability at the third grade of SMAN 4 Pandeglang?‖ The researcher conducted this research by applying quantitaive approach with true experimental as a method. In this research, all the students in the third grade of SMAN 4 Pandeglang were taken as a population. This research involved two classes of the third grade at SMAN 4 Pandeglang chosen as a sample by using random sampling. One class was chosen as the experimental group and other one as the control group. The samples were 60 students. The result based on the resaerch about ―the influence of using group work toward students‘ speaking ability at the third grade of SMAN 4 Pandeglang‘, the researcher found there was significant influence toward students‘ speaking ability. It was proven by independent t-test on control group and experimental group. The results were were 80.43 in control group and83.40 in experimental group. Based on the distribution table with 0.05 level of significance, t-table was 1.697. It showed that the t-test result was higher than t-table. It means there was significant influence of using group work toward students‘ speaking ability. Based on the result of the research, the researcher concluded that group work was one of appropriate techniques which influence toward students‘ speaking ability in order that students became active in learning speaking.
