THE INFLUENCE OF ROLE PLAY TOWARDS STUDENTSí SPEAKING SKILL IN EIGHTH GRADE AT SMPN 6 KOTA SERANG ACADEMIC YEAR 2014-2015

The objective of this research was to find out the influence by using role play toward students’ speaking skill in eighth grade. This research was conducted in SMPN 6 Kota Serangon the first semester of academic year 2015-2016. The researcher applied quantitative research that was implemented by quasi experimetal design as research method, which consisted of pre-test, treatments, and post test was given after the researcher gave the treatments.  There were two groups of this research. They were experimental group and control group. Each of group had 16 students as sample. Class VIIIC was as control group and class VIIIA was as experimental group. The research result found that there was the influence of role play towards students’ speaking skill.The average of the students’ achievement before conducted treatment was 50.4 for experimental class and 45.4 for control class. The average of the students’ achievement after conducted treatment in experimental class was 67.6 and in control class was 54.4. Based on those progress of students’ score, it could be said that experimental group is better than the control group after getting treatment of role play. In addition, the result of hypothesis test showed that tcount was higher than ttable (2.900 ≥2.042). thus, it could be concluded that there was an influence of role play toward students’ speaking skill in eighth grade at SMPN 6 Kota Serang.
