ANALYSIS OF TEACHER AND LEARNERS’ TALK IN THE CLASSROOM INTERACTION AT 9TH GRADE OF SMP PGRI 400 TANGERANG

The objective of this study is to find out the types of teacher talk and learners talk and also the advantages and disadvantages of teacher talk and learners talk in the classroom interaction at the 9th grade of SMP PGRI 400 Tangerang. The method of this study used qualitative approach, particularly descriptive study. The participants of this study were a teacher and a class of 9th grade in one junior high school in Tangerang. Data were collected from video recording, observation, and interview with both of teacher and students. Those data were analyzed qualitatively based on the FLINT Analysis. Those data were interpreted and classified in order to answer the research questions. The result of this study reveals that teacher talk is more dominant than students talk during the teaching learning process in the classroom interaction. That finding was supported by the data from interview. It revealed that teacher almost dominate the talking time during the teaching learning process in the classroom interaction with the lecturing method. Students are being active if teacher asked questions to the students because in this case teacher was always give the rewards to the students who were active in the class. For practical purposes, it is recommended that English teacher should not always use the lecturing method for teaching in the class, be a good motivator and role model for students, and should applying variety methods to create the effectiveness of the classroom interaction during the teaching learning process.
