IMPROVING STUDENTSí VOCABULARY MASTERY THROUGH WORD SEARCH GAME AT SEVENTH GRADE AT SMPN 11 KOTA SERANG

The objectives of this research were to find out the process of using word search game to improve students’ vocabulary mastery and to find out the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery through word search game at seventh grade of SMPN 11 Kota Serang. In order to achieve the objectives of this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research as the research methodology. This research was conducted in two cycles which consisted of two meetings in every cycle. The instruments of the research were observation and test. The object of this research was VII F class at SMPN 11 Kota Serang which consisted of 39 students. Based on the result of the research, the using of word search game in teaching vocabulary improved students’ vocabulary mastery. It was proven from the result of observation and test. Based on the result of observation there were improvements in the students’ learning activity. The students enjoyed and had more enthusiasts in every meeting. The students could also focus on teaching learning process and remember the vocabulary well. Furthermore, based on the result of test, the average students’ score improved. The students’ score in pre-test was 52.94% and the score in post-test 1 was 68.33%. It improved 15.39%. The students’ score in post-test 2 was 77.17%. The students’ score improved 8.84%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of word search game in teaching vocabulary improve students’ vocabulary mastery at seven grade students at SMPN 11 Kota Serang.
