THE INFLUENCE OF TEXT-TO-SPEECH (TTS) SOFTWARE TOWARD STUDENTS ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION AT EIGHTH GRADE OF SMPN 1 CILEGON

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not Text-To-Speech (TTS) software has positive influence toward students’ pronunciation at the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Cilegon. The researcher chose quantitative as the methodology of the research with quasi experimental design. The population was all of the eighth grade students with total 251. The researcher took two classes as samples out of seven which consist of 36 students in each. Class VIII D  was the control while VIII A was experimental class. The classes were given tests as the instrument, namely pretest and posttest. The experimental class was treated using TTS software as a media while the control one was taught without it. The result showed that there was positive influence of using TTS software in the experimental class. It was proved by t-test result counted by SPSS v.20. The t-count was -4.79 and the t-table was –(2.03). The significance level with two tailed test  was 0.00 with α = 0.05 or 5% of significance level and 35 of df. It means that the  -t-count was < -(t-table) and the significance level was < α. Therefore, it indicated that there was positive influence of using TTS software toward students’ English pronunciation at eighth grade of SMPN 1 Cilegon.
