AN ANALYSIS OF VOCABULARY MASTERY THROUGH KOREAN MOVIE WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLE

The purpose of the research was to know the reason why the students choose to watch Korean movie with English subtitle and was it related toward their vocabulary mastery. To achieve the purpose of the research, the researcher conducted qualitative descriptive research. The population of this research was English students of Untirta Academic Year 2012 class 6C. The class consisted of 27 students. The instrument of this research was questionnaire and interview. The researcher distributed questionnaire and interviewed English students of Untirta. The research findings showed the result of questionnaire students who like to watch Korean movie with English subtitle were lower than students who were not have interest in Korean movie. The result of this research was students who like to watch Korean movie with English subtitle experienced both positive and negative effects. The positive effect was students could easier to memorize new word from English subtitle. The negative effect was students spend most of their time for watching Korean movie. Even though the students were aware of the negative effect they had experienced, the students still watched Korean movie with English subtitle. It was because they experienced more positive effect than negative effect. It can be concluded that the use of Korean movie with English subtitle helped students to get better achievement in vocabulary mastery.
