The objective of the research was to find out whether herringbone technique
influenced students’ reading comprehension at the 10
i
th
grade of SMAN 1
Kramatwatu. The research methodology was quantitative research with true
experimental design. There were experiment class and control class. The researcher
applied treatment after pre-test and before post-test in experiment class. The
researcher used herringbone technique as the treatment in experiment class and
cooperative learning in control class. The population of this research was from 10
grade students. The researcher took X.1 as experiment class and X.5 as control class.
The researcher took those classes randomly by using clustering technique. The result
of this research showed that pre-test in experiment class got mean score 65.12 and got
85.74 in post-test. Beside that, students in control class got pre-tests’ mean score
57.86 and post-test 74.5. It showed that mean score of pre-test and post-test in
experiment class has higher progress than mean score of pre-test and post-test in
control class. Based on the result and the explanation above, the researcher concluded
that herringbone technique influenced the students’ reading comprehension. As
suggestion, the researcher hopes that the teacher can apply herringbone technique in
teaching reading comprehension.
