IMPROVING STUDENTSí READING COMPREHENSION IN NARRATIVE TEXT THROUGH PICTURE SERIES AT THE EIGHTH GRADE OF SMPN 19 KOTA SERANG

The aim of the research was to find out the improvement of students’ reading comprehension in narrative text through picture series. This research was conducted in SMP Negeri 19 Kota Serang on the second semester of academic year 2014/1015. The researcher conducted this research by applying Classroom Action Research (CAR) as a method. This research used picture series as the media that was implemented in class of 8-C which is consisted of 33 students.This research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Each cycles consisted of two meetings. Before doing the research, the researcher gave pre-test. Theaverage score of pre-test is 52.7. After pre-test, the researcher implemented the cycle I and gave post-test I. The result of post-test I is 78.2. Thus the researcher conducted the cycle II in order to reach target of KKM score. In post-test II, the students got 90. It means that there was a significant result between post-test I and post-test II in order to improve students’ reading comprehension in narrative text through picture series.Based on the result of the research, the researcher concluded that the using of picture series was one of the appropriate media to improve students’ readingcomprehension in narrative text.Using of picture series in teaching reading not only could improve students’ reading comprehension, but also the students were enjoying, enthusiastic, interested, active and interested in teaching reading process. Because the picture provided more concrete guidance, with visual media teaching material which was interesting.
