THE CORRELATION OF STUDENTS ATTITUDES ON LITERATURE READING AND STUDENTSí READING ACHIEVEMENT AT THE ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMAN 23 KABUPATEN TANGERANG

The research objective is to find out the correlation of students attitudes on literature reading and students reading achievement. The samples were 11 IPA 1 and 11 IPA 2 students of SMAN 23 Kabupaten Tangerang. The instruments which were used in this research were attitude questionnaire and students daily test score. The data was analysed using chi square tests of significance and the phi coefficient. The result of the questionnaire showed that 5.1% of the participants were having positive attitudes and high reading achievement, 35.6% of the participants were having positive attitudes and low reading achievement, 5.1% of the participants were having negative attitudes and high reading achievement, and the rest 54.2% were having negative attitudes and low reading achievement. The result of chi square (5.31 > 3.841) showed that there was statistically significant relationship between students attitudes on literature reading and students reading achievement. The result of phi coefficient (+0.06) showed that the relationship is slightly positive. The researcher concluded that there is a significant positive correlation between students attitudes on literature reading and students reading achievement.
