THE INFLUENCE OF USING DIRECTED READING THINKING ACTIVITY (DR-TA) TOWARD STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION AT THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP N 1 KRAGILAN

The objective of this research is to investigate the influence of using Directed Reading-Thinking Activity (DR-TA) toward students reading comprehension of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Kragilan. The researcher used quantitative method with true experimental design. The population of this research was eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Kragilan in academic year 2014/2015. Two classes were taken as the sample of this research, namely VIII A as control class and VIII C as experimental class. The researcher collected the data by giving tests namely pre-test and post-test and analyzed by using independent ttest. Based on students‟ reading score, it showed the value of ttest was 2.32and ttable was 2.00 at level significant 0.05 (5%) and the degree of freedom was 58. Ttest was higher than ttable or 2.32 ≥ 2.00. It meant that the null hypothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there was a significant influence of directed reading-thinking activity (DR-TA) strategy toward students reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMP N 1 Kragilan.
